Catskills Cycling and Swimming 6 Days, 5 Nights
Catskills Cycling and Swimming 6 Days, 5 Nights
Our daily riding will be in 2 chunks: one 3hr session after breakfast and a 3-4hr session after lunch. We will all leave together at the start of each session, have 1 re-group point, and then meet again at the lunch point or in the campsite.
Day 1 is the hardest cycling day because at the end of the day, right after we have a break in Woodstock, we go halfway up a mountain to the campsite. Fear not, we will all walk and push our bikes together up that hill. It’s a no-drop ride, meaning there will be a designated sweep rider at the back of the group (most days this is your guide). This ensures that nobody will be left behind and nobody will be fixing their flat tire alone.
The trip starts off at peak rustic experience and the comforts increase as the trip goes on. First 2 nights are camping in the forest preserve with Night 2 being a special place next to a waterfall and swimming site. Then we have 3 nights of camping at private campgrounds with showers, flush toilets, electrical outlets, and swimming. Peak luxury arrives when the group is served dinner on Night 5, and coffee and breakfast on the morning of Day 6.
Although you will spend most of your time riding in a pod with other cyclists, each rider is responsible for their own navigation. We highly recommend before the trip begins that you load the route onto a bike-specific gps device or use your personal mobile phone to navigate.
This trip is optimally timed for star gazing because the moon will be in its ‘new’ phase, meaning the bright side of the moon won’t be interfering with the light of the stars. This also means that each rider must bring a headlamp.
