Beebe & Beyond
a Gravel & MTB Ride organized by Lichen Bike Tours
Go Beyond Gravel Roads - Onto Singletrack Trails - In Beebe Hill State Forest
Saturday June 27th and Sunday June 28th | 8:30am Departures Begin | Choose Saturday or Sunday, or come both days!
Leaving from Hillsdale, NY, we ride up gravel roads, rising to the Taconic Mountains and high points in Beebe Hill and Harvey Mountain state forests. Riders can choose to stay on the gravel-only routes or venture onto chonky singletrack.
This ride is picturesque and mostly shaded. We are running the event on both Saturday and Sunday so that you can choose the day that works best for you. Same ride format and aid stations on both days. Compared to 2025, we've changed the departs and added a second aid station just for the longer routes
Entry to Beebe & Beyond Gets You:
- All day socializing on bikes on a scenic, shaded route around the border of New York and Massachusetts
- $5 donation to Columbia County Mountain Bike Alliance, who designed and maintain the singletrack trails
- One big aid station for all riders, and a smaller 2nd aid station for people doing longer routes
- 1 post-ride drink ticket for a free beer or cider from our hosts at Roe Jan Brewing Co.
- Special Beebe & Beyond t-shirt
- Fun little awards ceremony during the post-ride hangouts
- Flexible registration - You can switch your day (Saturday or Sunday) up until June 25th
- Reassurance of riding in a fully insured and NYS DEC permitted event
Event Start:

- 8:30am depart for the “longer” routes

- 8:45am depart for the “shorter” routes
The speediest riders will be back before 11am for the “shorter” and 12pm noon for the “longer”. The “shorter” party-pace riders will be back between 3-4pm, depending on how long people cool off at the aid station.
Post-Ride Fun:
On a hot summer afternoon after a very hilly bicycle ride, head indoors at Roe Jan Brewing Co. to the air conditioned dining room and order off of their full menu. Downstairs at the covered patio there are the same beers and ciders with a limited food menu. Stick around until the evening and you will catch the live music crowd. Each rider gets 1 drink ticket which can be used at the bar, or next door at Twisted Sisters Coffee House.
We will have a short awards ceremony around 12:30 for the fastest riders of the shorter and longer routes. At 4pm, after all the riders have completed the course, there will be a small awards ceremony for Ded Freakin' Last (DFL), Bike Least Suited For This Ride, and Sexiest Overall Bike. All trophies will be a variety of hot sauce!

Pace Groups and Bikes/Tires To Bring:
Some folks will probably go as fast as they can, especially on the longer routes. But the shorter routes will have a ‘party pace’ 8mph average cluster of riders that will finish with more than 5 hours of riding, plus time enjoyed at the aid station.
The mountain bike trails are optional, and so are the suspension forks. There are enough miles and climbing to make you regret bringing your trail bike, and enough chonk (on the mtb routes) to outmatch your gravel bike. When you're considering which bike to bring to Beebe & Beyond, bring your klunker, your lugged steel pedaler, your Velo Orange Neutrino, your Santa Cruz Stigmata, that one bike with the Lefty front fork, or whatever feels right that day. Just please carry your own equipment to fix your tire if it goes flat.
If you choose one of the chonky routes then we recommend tires at least 2 inches (50mm) in width. Gravel-only routes have a mix of hard packed smooth gravel and loose, rough stone so we recommend tires around 40mm in width (though it can certainly be ridden on narrower tires, just with less comfort).
Route Descriptions:
Shorter routes start to the west before heading north and starting the winding journey up the Taconic foothills to our high points in the state forests. The longer routes start to the south where they do a loop including Sunset Rock Rd before heading North, stopping at their special aid station, and then joining the shorter route for the remainder of the miles.
Specific routes data will be sent out when it's closer to the last weekend of June. But for now here’s a preview.
- Gravel Only - Shorter - 41 miles, 4000ft climbing. Shaded and fun dirt and gravel roads.
- Chonky Mtn Bike Trails - Shorter - 45 miles, 4500ft climbing. Most thrills per mile of any route. Includes 8 trails in Beebe Hill and Harvey Mtn state forests.
- Gravel Only - Longer - 56 miles, 6000ft climbing. 2 aid stations, zero mountain bike trails, and way more than a vertical mile of climbing.
- Chonky Mtn Bike Trails - Longer - 61 miles, 6500ft climbing. 2 aid stations and includes 8 trails in Beebe Hill and Harvey Mtn state forests. The biggest challenge of them all!
Overnight Stays:
Beebe & Beyond isn't an overnight event, so if you are traveling from out of town you will have to make your own accommodations. Options include:
- Five private glamping/camping spots on bucolic farmland that's van friendly and has a shower building (Upper Shire Campsites)
- Lots of quiet tent and RV spots at a family campground with a pool and showers (Spacious Skies Campground - Woodland Hills)
- Many tent and car sites at a state campground with pond swimming and showers (Taconic State Park - Copake Falls Area) (2 night minimum)
