Class Description:

Ever wanted to try bikepacking? This three-session course will introduce you to the essentials of traveling by bicycle and camping overnight. Whether you're a cyclist looking to expand into camping or a camper interested in long-distance cycling, this hands-on class will build your confidence in planning and participating in bikepacking adventures.

All bikes and biking levels, from Cruiser to Cervelo, are invited to join. Bikepacking is for everyone and is a fun and enjoyable way to immerse oneself in nature just pedals strokes away from your front door.

Everyone who registers will receive a copy of The Bikepacker's Guide 2nd Edition by Kaitlyn Boyle and published by BikepackingRoots.org

By the end of this class, you'll be fully prepared to join a well-planned bikepacking trip and gain the confidence to explore new adventures on two wheels. Through guided instruction, practical demonstrations, and an immersive outdoor ride, students will learn:

  1. How to pack and load camping gear onto a bicycle
  2. Bike handling with a fully loaded setup
  3. Route planning, campsite selection, and Leave No Trace (LNT) principles
  4. Shelter setup, camp cooking, and gear maintenance
  5. Safe cycling practices for riding on public roads

Who Should Enroll?
This course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts eager to explore bikepacking. While prior experience cycling with traffic is beneficial, students who prefer traffic-free routes can still gain valuable skills for trail-based bikepacking. Bikepacking is for everyone. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and gear, however some equipment will be available for practice during the course.
